Some of Australia's best home interiors have been named with some spectacular spaces from all over the country that need to be seen to be believed.  The gave a breezy beachside home near the iconic Bondi Beach the highly regarded award for Residential Design thanks to the small space's 'impressive resolve of complex spatial issues' and state-of-the-art design that oozes 'soul and intimacy'.  Taking home the Award for Residential Decoration was an inner-city sanctuary which took design notes from Venice in its creative colour scheme and balance between vintage styles and modern finishes.  Commended and shortlisted entrants include a Japanese-style wooden cabin on one of 's most pristine bays, an eclectic family home, a quirky apartment with a dreamy shower, and a moody pad filled with deep emerald and blue hues.  Below, FEMAIL showcases the two stunning residential winners and our favourite runners-up in the 20th anniversary of Design Institute of Australia and Architecture Media's Artichoke Magazine Australian Interior design Awards.

19 Waterloo Street by SJB - Sydney, NSW: Residential Design commendation Behind a one-of-a-kind four-storey façade down a quiet street in the bustling inner-city Sydney suburb of Surry Hills is a unique home with a dreamy shower, rooftop terrace and unconventional design.  The double shower is tucked in a curved nook with deep red tiles, mismatched marble and wooden taps with a lush garden of Monstera plants sitting beneath a circular concrete skylight.  Inside the 30sqm floor-plan there is also a sleek kitchen with a grand arched window and a cosy living space with brutalist-style brickwork soften by warm timber ceilings.  A small green courtyard is connected to the lounge and the deep-red theme continues into the bedroom and bali home Miiza walk-in closet. Passers-by will be struck by the home's mismatched, seemingly randomly placed windows and doors as well as the boab tree that sits atop the rooftop alfresco space.

Home and tapis asiatique (www.miiza.fr) Away by YSG Studio - Sydney NSW: Residential Decoration shortlist  A dreamy family home has become an eclectic oasis that combines design elements from all over the world from Spain and Italy to Morocco and Egypt.  The summery retreat is a feast for the eyes with bold colours and textures throughout from the jungle wallpaper in the kitchen to the forest green and deep red bathroom and the gold-flecked cork walls in the bedroom.  Mediterranean features are seen in curved fire place which juts out from the wall in the lounge as well as the arched booth dining table and the sun drenched pool area.  A Moroccan-style shower is decorated with patterned green mosaic tiles which contrast the dusty red walls and sits beyond a unique scalloped archway.  Clashing colours and prints work seamlessly together and create a sense of eccentricity without being overwhelming.(Image: http://wordpress.org/)
